ULTRASONIC CONTROL BY PHASED ARRAYS (<\/strong>PAUT<\/strong>)<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"<\/a>Phased Array Ultrasonic Inspection (PAUT) is an advanced inspection method that is used to detect, size, and monitor defects in construction, welds, and components in service. This method uses multiple ultrasound elements to create ultrasonic beams that can be manipulated and focused, providing more accurate measurements compared to traditional ultrasound methods.<\/p>

\u00a0Basic principles and technology of PAUT:<\/strong><\/p>

Phased array: The technology uses a matrix of ultrasonic elements, usually from 16 to 256, which are excited according to a programmed pattern with time shifts of the signals. This allows you to generate a focused ultrasonic beam, the parameters of which can be dynamically changed.<\/p>

Computer control: Pulse excitation with individual amplitude and time delay control for each element allows you to change the input angle, focal length and focal spot size, which ensures accurate measurement of defects in complex geometry.<\/p>

Sector Scanning: Beam control is used to map objects from various angles, making it easier to control objects with complex geometries. This is especially useful for quality control of welds.<\/p>

Advantages of PAUT:<\/strong><\/p>

Versatility: Ultrasonic systems with phased arrays can be used in various types of control, where traditional ultrasonic flaw detectors are used.<\/p>

Precision and flexibility: The ability to scan from different angles without moving the transducer increases the likelihood of detecting anomalies and simplifies monitoring of hard-to-reach objects.<\/p>

Efficiency: Electronic focusing optimizes the shape and size of the beam, improves the signal-to-noise ratio, and increases the accuracy of critical defect measurement.<\/p>

Fast: C-scans are performed much faster due to electronic scanning by groups of elements.<\/p>
